Dried Mealworms – A nutritious, sustainable choice for birds and chickens
Dried mealworms are an excellent addition to the diet of backyard birds and chickens, offering a natural and nutrient-dense food source that supports their health and vitality. Packed with 53% protein, 28% fat, 6% fiber, and only 5% moisture, they provide significantly more nutritional value compared to live mealworms. This macronutrient profile makes them a perfect supplement for omnivorous or insectivorous diets, closely mimicking the natural diet of many bird species.
For wild birds, dried mealworms are a delicious and energy-rich treat that attracts species such as chickadees, bluebirds, woodpeckers, and robins to your backyard. They also serve as an essential protein boost for chickens, promoting strong egg production, healthy feathers, and overall vitality. Their low moisture content ensures easy storage and long shelf life, making them convenient for bird enthusiasts and poultry owners alike.
Dried mealworms are not only beneficial for animals but are also an environmentally friendly food option. Farming mealworms is highly sustainable. No growth hormones, pesticides or insecticides are used in the production of our dried mealworms, providing a safe and natural product for your birds and chickens! At INSECTCIBUS, we take sustainability a step further, all of our mealworm products are 100% farmed and processed in Canada and all packaged and shipped from Rockland, Ontario.
How to use Dried Mealworms
Incorporating dried mealworms into your feeding routine is quite simple!
- Dried mealworms can be scattered among your regular seed in a hanging platform bird feeder
- Offered as a standalone treat to your flock
- Dried mealworms can be given as-is, or re-hydrated by briefly soaking them in warm water. Soaking helps make it easier to digest, and easier to break apart for smaller birds or birds with softer beaks
Be warned however: these protein-packed morsels will quickly become a favorite!
